barbecue oxtail and slaw sandwich

Extra oxtail meat + extra barbecue sauce + extra homemade slaw + fried egg + toasted store bought roll = DINNER.

Creamy NY Deli Coleslaw (adapted from America's Test Kitchen), serves 4
8 oz. of store bought coleslaw mix (pre-shredded green and red cabbage and carrots)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 Tb white vinegar
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp celery salt
dash of lemon juice

1. Toss the coleslaw mix with 1 teaspoon of salt and transfer to a colander to sit for 1-4 hours.  After the cabbage has sat, rinse and pat dry with paper towels.  2.  Whisk remaining ingredients together in a large bowl.  Add the dried coleslaw mix and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.  Before serving season with salt and pepper to taste.

  1. This looks so good. I wanna try it with shredded beef or pork. Where do you get your buns from? I can never find good buns and it makes such a difference.

  2. Mark picked up the rolls at a market called Jewel-Osco I think it's part of the same company as Albertson's in CA. He got it from the bakery department and the rolls are baked on the premises. However, if I were in CA I think I would yelp some local bakeries too.

  3. Come to think of it I'd even try like Mexican bakeries too. I think the bread they use for tortas would be really good with something like this. You could also try places like Panera.

  5. Mmm, brioche is delicious and also a favorite of mine too and would be great for this, you're right. For brioche I'd maybe specifically look at French or Asian bakeries. The only thing is that it might be a loaf and not a roll. OR what you can do is just buy brioche rolls directly from a restaurant you know that sells burgers/sandwiches on a brioche bun. I just typed "brioche buns near OC, CA" on yelp and I got some hits.
